We had the chance to test a TENTBOX rooftop tent, the Lite 2.0 model for two people. Among its many advantages, the TentBox Lite 2.0 fits all vehicle sizes—even the smallest ones.
Rooftop tents offer numerous benefits. Practicality is certainly the first one. You avoid investing in an expensive van and driving it around all year. You can remove or reinstall the rooftop tent whenever you like and easily store it in a garage. You stop wherever you want in nature, and five minutes later, the tent is set up. You’re off the ground, away from moisture and potential animals. The tent is waterproof, equipped with a comfortable mattress and storage pockets. You save on hotel costs during your outdoor trips.

There are, however, a few minor drawbacks we noticed during use. The first concerns the time required to mount it onto the car roof. You obviously need roof bars. A bolt system allows you to secure the TentBox Lite 2.0 to the rack. Although a good ratchet wrench is provided with the TentBox Lite 2.0, it’s better to have a second one to speed things up and tighten the lock nuts. Another drawback is the increased fuel consumption caused by wind resistance—up to two extra liters per 100 km. And that’s without even considering electric cars.
Once these points are accepted, the TentBox Lite 2.0 proves to be very well-designed. All handling is intuitive. The model we tested weighs 50 kg, which two people can manage. Once installed on the vehicle roof bars, the TentBox Lite 2.0 unfolds extremely easily after removing the travel cover. We used the telescopic ladder to open it.

You then install six tent poles to set up the rain covers over the windows and doors. And that’s pretty much it—the tent is almost ready! You just need to ensure the ladder is positioned vertically according to the terrain. In very windy conditions, you can add ropes tied to the wheels or the ground. On the TentBox website, all the user manuals for installing and using the TentBox Lite 2.0 are available. The instructions are very clear, and the translations are excellent.
We really appreciated the speed and ease of installation. You just need to make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground.
Another major advantage is comfort. Unlike a traditional tent, you sleep flat on a real, quality mattress. The brand’s website also offers a wide range of accessories for sleeping, cooking, insulation, awnings, and more.

We tested the TentBox Lite 2.0 in very cold winter temperatures. As mentioned, you are far from the ground and far from moisture. The original mattress is already very insulating. We also used a thermal kit and a self-inflating mattress, which ensured we never felt cold.
Inside, there are plenty of storage spaces, windows, and even skylight openings. You get a bedroom with a view, perfect for enjoying the stars, sunrise, or sunset.

Waterproofing is good, and the fabrics used are robust. We can’t yet comment on long-term durability, but the build quality is solid. You can tell it’s a thoroughly refined product—every detail has been carefully thought out. The British brand TENTBOX was born in the UK and is now the market leader in this type of nomadic product.
We were truly won over by this highly practical and cleverly designed TentBox Lite 2.0. It’s an excellent option for traveling freely, on a low budget, and with great comfort. Fully deserving of a First Test4outside award.♥
You can purchase all TENTBOX products directly from the brand’s website. The entire range comes with a 5-year warranty—the longest in the market. Delivery across Europe is fast: 3 to 7 days from the logistics hub in the Netherlands.
