This ski sock incorporates three key components, each accounting for roughly 30% of the total composition. The LCF-Outdoor Vanoise is made of Merino wool, 35% acrylic and 31% polyamide, with 2% elastane. First and foremost, this is a warm ski sock, thanks to the presence of Merino wool. LCF-Outdoor rates the thermal insulation of the Vanoise model at 4 out of 5. We tested it during alpine skiing sessions in sub-zero temperatures. The thermal properties are clearly effective, with the onset of cold sensations significantly delayed throughout the day. That said, for extremely cold conditions or particularly cold-sensitive skiers, the LCF-Outdoor Elbrouz EV model (€39), featuring 90% wool, is noticeably warmer.
Returning to the Chaussette de France Outdoor Vanoise, it offers an interesting balance between warmth, comfort, relatively fast drying and odor reduction. Overall, this is a fairly versatile sock, capable of handling most weather conditions, all without breaking the bank, as the €20 price tag is very reasonable given the quality of construction.
The materials feel soft to the touch, and the Chaussette de France Outdoor Vanoise is easy to put on. It slides smoothly against ski boot liners or snowboard boots. It does not bunch up or create folds, particularly in the shin and heel areas. The manufacturer has wisely added reinforcements to reduce friction. The knitting around the toes is precise, with no excess thickness or loose threads. This over-the-calf sock stays securely in place without compression or leaving marks on the leg.
The Chaussette de France Outdoor Vanoise EV can be washed at 30°C without fabric softener. It withstands abrasion under the foot quite well, and wear remains well controlled.
