The Scott Kinabalu Trail belongs to that category of shoes you can use every day, on most types of terrain, without overthinking it. It’s a versatile, well-designed product—perhaps not ultra high-performance, but very enjoyable to run in.
Right from the start, you notice the precision of the Scott Kinabalu Trail: it feels quite precise and streamlined. At a measured weight of 257 grams, it almost disappears on the run. But that’s not where its main strength lies. Instead, it shines through its well-balanced cushioning—present under the entire foot, yet precise enough to maintain good ground feel, especially on technical sections. It’s also a shoe that works well for forefoot running, with good responsiveness and a firm, non-spongy feel in that area. At the heel, ground contact is solid, particularly laterally, with no noticeable torsion. It will be worth seeing over time whether the foam maintains its stability.
For average-weight runners, the Scott Kinabalu Trail is a great fit. Heavier runners may reach its limits in terms of stability more quickly.
Energy return is somewhat limited compared to some pure racing models. But make no mistake: the Scott Kinabalu Trail is above all a fun, versatile shoe, made to be put on and enjoyed. We particularly appreciated its “plug-and-play” nature. Neither oversized nor minimalist, it sticks to proven and functional technical choices.
It’s carefully constructed, with a clean, well-executed design. The shaped tongue is nicely done and remains thin. The rock guard is sufficient to handle most technical trails, and the grip is quite aggressive across a wide range of terrain.
A fun shoe that lets you run with confidence and enthusiasm on many types of trails, without second thoughts. A true “plug-and-play” product.
