We were lucky enough to receive the Asics Gel-Cumulus 22 on test in the Tokyo Olympic Games’ colors; black and gold – superb! Shoes you can where in the hills and in the city. This limited series also has its equivalent traditional Cumulus 22.
We immediately find a very comfortable and flexible shoe. The entire foot envelopment but also at the front and rear and especially the heel was described as cozy. After running we didn’t notice any pressure points. The sole is fluid and you quickly forget your stride.
There is plenty of cushioning at the heel, but it isn’t spongy. You can run with a heel strike and not lose any stability especially laterally. There is a little less cushioning at the forefoot. The spring is good but obviously not as crisp as a racing shoe. Anyway, the comfort was well-appreciated for training and even for running on paths that aren’t easy running.
They aren’t the lightest we’ve run with but for the programme that it’s designed for, road/regular training, they fit the bill. We weighed it in at 285g in size 42,5. Also, an important note, they didn’t wear out quickly (well not as quickly as some).
The superb black and gold laces with “Tokoyo” written on them are flat and narrow. Don’t tighten them too hard or you could experience a pressure point on your instep. They are easy and efficient to adjust.
Beautifully finished: no blobs of glue, good assemblies and quality materials.
This Asics Gel-Cumuls 22 is a sure-bet for runners looking for a road shoe for regular training. Comfortable, cushioning, well-finished, you can run for miles without going too fast but in comfort.
