Designed for mountain biking, the CamelBak H.A.W.G 20 naturally includes a hydration bladder from the same brand. This 3-liter hydration system is well known, as it’s used across many of the brand’s packs: wide opening for easy filling and cleaning, a valve-equipped bite nozzle, and quick attachment inside the pack.
It’s clear that the development of this CamelBak H.A.W.G 20 was carefully thought out. Nothing is missing, the construction is meticulous, and durability has clearly been a priority. During testing, we particularly appreciated the Cordura re/cor fabric, which is not only highly resistant but also waterproof. The straps and zippers are equally robust.
One of the key strengths of the CamelBak H.A.W.G 20 is its carry system. The comfortable back panel can be quickly adjusted (via Velcro), while the shoulder straps are wide and well-shaped. The generously sized hip belt prevents unwanted movement or sway. Firmly secured on the back, the CamelBak H.A.W.G 20 allows you to carry plenty of gear for long rides. Its empty weight reaches nearly 1,200 grams.
The CamelBak H.A.W.G 20 also features impact protection. This semi-rigid layer allows e-MTB riders to carry a battery without pressure points against the back.
Storage options are plentiful—perhaps even a bit overwhelming—but there’s always a place to stash a jacket, a first aid kit, or repair tools. The side pockets on the hip belt are excellent: practical, secure, waterproof, and equipped with waterproof zippers. Side compression straps allow you to cinch down the CamelBak H.A.W.G 20.
The CamelBak H.A.W.G 20 is equipped with RECCO technology, well known among skiers. It’s a useful extra that can help rescuers locate you more quickly in case of an accident—provided they are equipped with a detector, typically carried by helicopter. Unlike skiers buried in avalanches, cyclists are usually visible on the surface.
Overall, this is an excellent MTB backpack: well designed, highly practical, and featuring a refined carry system. A durable product. Awarded “First Test4outside.”
