The Camelbak Rim Runner X22 hiking backpack comes with a 1.5-liter Camelbak hydration reservoir. This is a well-known, efficient hydration system that is featured in many Camelbak packs. The opening for filling and cleaning is very wide, and the hose ends with a no-drip bite valve.
Another key feature is the semi-rigid back panel, which is very comfortable and moves well with your body, especially when bending forward. The foam back is well-ventilated and offers good support for carrying the load. The shoulder straps, however, are thinner, which is a bit of a letdown. They could have been made thicker to match the quality of the foam back. But for “standard” use, like a day hike in the mountains, the Camelbak Rim Runner X22 performs well.
With a classic design, the Camelbak Rim Runner X22 follows the typical conventions of hiking backpacks: large storage compartments, an expandable pocket, a zipped compartment for securing items, and two daisy chains for attaching carabiners.
The material is 210D recycled Ripstop nylon, which is strong and nearly waterproof. The pack handles light rain and small weather changes well. The waist belt is fairly thin, but surprisingly, it can actually be removed. We don’t recall seeing this feature on many other backpacks. The pack weighs 890 grams.
In conclusion, the Camelbak Rim Runner X22 is a solid, practical, and well-designed hiking backpack, with a very convenient hydration reservoir.
