The Columbia Aerial Ascender Jkt is a very warm protective and insulated jacket. It combines a polyester filling and a golden interior lining (see photos). The latter, called Omni-Heat Infinity reflects your body’s heat, which you notice as soon as you put on the Columbia Aerial Ascender jacket.
It is a jacket for cold weather, you can’t adjust the temperature (at the end of the season for example) except by opening the underarm large vents.
The Columbia Aerial Ascender jacket is comfortable, cozy, and makes a slight rustling noise when you move. Its fluffiness gives the impression you have a quilt against your skin. It has a loose cut, it goes down low at the back.
The price is dynamite for this Columbia Aerial Ascender jacket. At less than 300 euros (you now find it below 200), it’s a really good deal. Its reasonable price offers real quality insulation and the benefits usually encountered with two separate jackets: one for protection and an underlayer for insulation.
The price doesn’t avoid certain “coarse” details. The worst is the multiple Velcro patches that hold the flap in place on the central zip. You need both hands to open your jacket. There are a few dodgy seams, the not terribly elegant cuff adjustments. However, you have everything you need on this Columbia Aerial Ascender jacket: the snow skirt with locking snaps when not in use, a hood that goes over the helmet if needed, ski pass pocket, interior mesh pocket to store your goggles, strong drawstrings, etc.
This Columbia Aerial Ascender jacket has a good quality/price ratio. It is above all a two-in-one jacket because it is both protective and insulating. A good plan for skiing without breaking the bank.
