Columbia Power KEG II

The first major quality of these Columbia Power KEG II are their warmth. We tested them throughout January, during the wave of freezing temperatures, whilst skiing. Thermally they are almost like big mittens, yet we benefit from better precision with finger use.

The insulation is very performant and linked to the use of the Omni HeatTMReflective Thermal 3D. To briefly summarize, a material like aluminum reflects the hands’ heat to keep the warmth inside the gloves. And – it works! The Columbia Power KEG II are recommended for very cold conditions and for those who don’t like mittens.

You can see the silvery material on the upper inside. The contact with the skin isn’t particularly soft but the polar fleece on the interior palm is. After a while you forget about the slightly gritty touch to the topside, it doesn’t prevent your hand sliding in easily, even if its humid. Talking of which, the small tab designed to help you slide the glove on is too small.

These are extremely warm yet lose a little precision around the fingers, especially at the ends.

They are really recommended for freeride skiing in conditions of deep powder because they go up high over your wrists. They can either go under your jacket cuffs or over the top. If you choose the first option the wrists become very rigid. The wide adjustment strap tightens the wrist section.

The OutDryTMmembrane ensures waterproofness in the event of wet snow or rain. They are also very performant in this case. The palm of the hand is leather. We would’ve liked a small reinforcement on the thumb to improve durability when carrying skis.

The gloves have a cord so you don’t lose them: they remain attached to your hands.

These Columbia Power KEG II gloves are designed for very low temperatures thanks to their OmniHeatTMThermal Reflective layer. The thickness of the gloves is reduced but the thermal protection is excellent.
