Compressport TRAIL UNDER CONTROL FULL TIGHTS

The Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights are also available in a Pirate ¾ version. We tested the long version with the Compressport Trail Racing shorts (ultra-light), a combination that works well together. They can also be worn without additional shorts.

When you unpack the Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights, you wonder how on earth you will get them on because the tights seem really small. We are of course dealing with a stretch compression fabric. During the first time out, the fabric needs to be stretched. Then they do become slightly more “flexible”, without ever going out of shape. Your muscles are supported without being squished like a sausage. The overall comfort is pleasant: the material is soft against the skin and the thermal protection is a real bonus. However, they aren’t designed for very cold conditions because they are very breathable and designed for action. The fibers evacuate perspiration and they dry very quickly. You can feel the air flow through the fabric yet you still have good thermal protection for trail running (hiking, or even other outdoor activities).

They are very comfortable to wear, the Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights have two silicone bands on the thighs to prevent your hands from slipping during steep climbs (hands on the thighs). They are practical and above all they don’t hinder perspiration from evacuating and drying. Compressport has taken care to use thin silicone strips that do not interfere with the fabric’s stretch. When you run in the fog, fine water droplets fix onto the silicone.

Compressport are sometimes criticized for the relative fragility of their products. These products are geared towards performance and focused on being light, so it is logical that “light” technical options are sometimes less durable. In the case of the Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights, we didn’t have the feeling that this product was fragile at all. They withstood a few meetings with bushes, tension when pulling them on, being scuffed with your shoes, etc. The thermo-printed logos may come off in time that’s all. Important, these compression tights must be hand washed.

What did we find wrong with the Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights? We would have maybe liked a bit more flexibility between the legs, the material could have a little more give in this area.

Another point, depending on your morphology, the belt may seem a little too tight even without using the drawstring. If you are very thin you’ll be the most comfortable. In our case, we didn’t need to use the mini drawstring. The ends don’t have a blocking system, with the waist tension, we were sure that the cord would disappear inside the fabric: curiously, it didn’t. Compressport have made the end of the cord slightly thicker to prevent it from disappearing into the fabric.

The large rear stretch pocket system is very clever. You can access it easily and open it easily even with cold hands or with gloved on. This non-zipped pocket closes automatically, you can slip gels in, or for fun, your car keys (which we didn’t do because we are too paranoid about losing them). The pocket is very ventilated and doesn’t make you sweat.

At the front, you have two vertical spaces where you can also slip a gel. Stupidly we tested it and it doesn’t work! The gel slides and hinders your leg movements. An absurd idea that we thought up, Compressport never stated this space was made for storage.

The following question still remains: should you wear underwear with the Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights? For us the answer is no for short distances: they are comfortable, you don’t overheat and have any rubbing, and any perspiration evacuates fast. With underwear, you limit heat evacuation but you do feel the flat crotch seams less. It’s a personal choice, but you can do both.
Last but not least, the fabric doesn’t seem to get too smelly.

The Compressport Trail Under Control Full Tights provide controlled thermal protection when going out into a cool atmosphere. The breathability and comfort are very good as well as their drying speed. The compression is also very well-dosed. Depending on your morphology, the size may be a little too tight, or not!
