Dynastar M-Free 108

The Dynastar M-Free 108 has a radius of 18 meters, the same as the Dynastar M-Pro Ti.

The comparison ends there because the sidecuts are not the same. The Dynastar M-Free 108 is a pleasant ski, but we liked it less than the Dynastar M-Pro Ti, which received a First Test4outside award. The M-Pro is just as easy and offers better performance. The prices are nearly identical, so it’s worth opting for the Pro version, as it doesn’t display extreme handling characteristics.

The Dynastar M-Free 108 is indeed a bit wider than the Pro version, and it performs better in powder and challenging snow conditions. It has excellent behavior in soft snow. However, it’s less solid: when you apply strong pressure on the edges, it doesn’t respond as sharply. You lose a bit of confidence, particularly on hard snow. It’s an easy ski to pivot, very pleasant in a raised attitude, and works well on flat skis. The rockers and shorter edge length contribute to this ease. It almost feels like it has more rocker than the Pro version: is that a perception or reality?

Given its width, you need to manage your weight distribution, especially towards the back when entering a turn. You can quickly find the edge, and if you apply pressure to the heel, you’ll discover that the ski is prone to understeering. In a centered position, the skier can easily control the Dynastar M-Free 108 without any issues.

An enjoyable ski that absorbs a lot of vibration, allowing you to go fast. It’s easy to handle and doesn’t require any particular technique. It carves big turns smoothly, with carving performance a bit less powerful than the Pro version, but it holds well on hard snow. You can adjust the radius with a bit of technique and attention. The ski flattens out quite directly, so you won’t get locked into a specific radius.

Good finishes. No transparency issues in the structure that we noted on the Pro version. Very nice base. Good glide. A relatively lightweight ski.

A well-built freeride ski, fluid and interesting, but a step behind the Dynastar M-Pro in terms of skiability.
