Elan Ace SC 11+

CORE

Featuring a sidecut profile of 130-74-110 mm with a stated 14-meter turn radius in the 172 cm length, the Elan Ace SC 11+ doesn’t do half-measures. Dressed in a very elegant black and silver graphic scheme and equipped with a screwed-in metal tip insert, this ski—reinforced with multiple Titanal layers—immediately sets the tone: it comes remarkably close to full racing standards in its behavior, if not necessarily in its graphics.

On snow, this supercharged model exhibits a dual personality. In an upright stance and during drifted or skidded transitions, it allows itself to be tamed without much complaint, despite its overall weight and dense underfoot structure.Pivoted turns are executed with relative ease, though managing the sheer mass underfoot already demands solid technical skills.

However, it is when you step on the gas and lay it over onto edge that the Ace SC 11+ reveals its true nature: a absolute acceleration machine. Guided by the initiation of its wide tip and supported by a stout tail, the ski locks instantly into carved turns and wants nothing more than to pick up speed. To extract its full potential, the skier must remain actively engaged: carefully metering fore-aft balance and locking in deep angulation (ankles, knees, and hips) are mandatory to deform its stiff flex pattern. Without this physical presence and high speed, the ski refuses to hook into its theoretical 14-meter radius, instead rolling through grand, sweeping arcs at blistering speeds.

In its element, it boasts two major assets: phenomenal edge grip and absolute tip stability. Pushed to nearly 80 km/h during our tests, the forebody didn’t budge a single millimeter, absorbing speed in impressive, chatter-free silence. On the flip side, forgiveness remains limited: any momentary relaxation or backseat stance is immediately punished by an overbearing tail that can trigger oversteer (a subtle detuning of the tail edges will soften this trait).

A high-performing, demanding, and extremely powerful ski that requires physical strength, expertise, and unwavering focus at all times. Underfoot for a heavy build or an expert-level skier seeking exceptional glide and rock-solid hold at top speeds, it is an absolute weapon. Test4outside Core Award.
