Hagan Core 84 Carbon

The Hagan Core 84 Carbon is quite lightweight, offering a good amount of versatility.

Its construction is carefully done, with a topsheet that’s resistant to various aggressions, with a brushed appearance, rather understated. The overall look is serious and not unpleasant. The edges rise quite high even if they don’t go all the way around the tip. There’s a notch for skins.

It’s a ski that shouldn’t be heavily loaded with weight or muscular action. In this regard, the pursuit of speed and performance is limited. It’s quite flexible throughout its length, especially in its front portion.

In flat pivots, in skidded turns, its behavior is as expected. One simply shouldn’t go too fast, or else you’ll feel the terrain irregularities. In snow with chunks, you might experience deformations at the front of the Hagan Core 84 Carbon, affecting contact. It absorbs, but it doesn’t necessarily allow you to feel what’s happening underfoot.

It’s firmer at the back and therefore tolerates imbalances in the heel more. If you load it at the front, it tends to oversteer. Pushing, angling, entering a turn significantly lift the ski. This is quite pleasant in small turns; you can easily complete them. However, when you want to open up the turn more, the tip tends to slip, losing grip and fluidity. Thus, you’re forced to reduce your speed. The transition from short to long radius isn’t very intuitive. It works well but at a moderate speed and without overloading it; you shouldn’t be too heavy on it relative to the size of the Hagan Core 84 Carbon. It’s recommended to take it slightly longer.

Its glide is good on both cold north-facing snow and wet late-season snow. On the way back, you immediately notice that the Hagan Core 84 Carbon accelerates.

It’s suitable for the skier who isn’t looking for a racing beast, who doesn’t necessarily have impeccable technique. It allows for exploring all pivot styles, in all types of snow, with a manageable weight. It offers a fairly sound behavior without being too tiring.
