The Norwegian brand Helly Hansen (from the founder Helly Juell Hansen) have nothing to prove anymore with technical underwear, their expertise is renowned. We have been using their products for years, both for their durability and their warmth. Once again with the H1 Pro Lifa Seamless ½ they’ve hit the mark.
This half-zip top is designed for skiing and mountaineering. We tested it over a three-week period on groomed slopes and off piste, in all possible weather conditions: rain, snow, strong wind and sun. We had a Primaloft® insulated jacket and a Gore-Tex® Pro protective jacket during these tests.
This top’s qualities include, in no particular order, warmth, comfort, design cut, breathability and limited bad smells.
We may as well say, this Helly Hansen is from now on in our skiing outfit. The only two “remarks” that we found “against” this top were the label in the neckline that you must take off completely, and the first feel of the top against your skin at first, we thought would be softer. Those who are sensitive to wool will immediately notice the presence of Merino. But this feeling disappears immediately.
The stretchiness follows your body’s curves, even better than that it has been designed to such detail that the stitching is practically absent, making the comfort so high that you forget you are wearing it. No rubbing, compression or discomfort around the neck or arm pits and wrists.
There are laser cut openwork sections on the front of the chest and along the backbone. These help dissipate sweating very efficiently. Over all this Helly Hansen H1 Pro Lifa Seamless ½ is designed for very cold temperatures, its thermal protection is very high.
We particularly like the area around the neck, soft as cotton wool. The zip cursor is protected and therefore doesn’t come in contact with your skin. The lower back is well protected as it descends low down.
The thumb holes increase the warmth and comfort around the wrists and backs of your hands. The stitching in this area is tough and comfortable.
We noticed reduced odors, probably due to the presence of Merino.
Very technical, warm, comfortable, very well-cut and designed, and breathable. The list goes on and on. This Helly Hansen H1 Pro Lifa Seamless ½ accumulates qualities. It may be expensive, but we gave it the FIRST Award without any hesitation whatsoever.
We used this equipment over a long period of time
These are our thoughts after intensive use:
After a year of testing, how is the Helly Hansen H1 Pro Lifa Seamless ½ zip holding up? We have little to take to change from the test we did last season. This technical underwear is still one of the must have products in your wardrobe. We could just add that it stretches a bit and so the fit is less snug. For the rest it is still as warm and breathable. A product that stands the test of time.
