Julbo Fury

The Julbo Fury are wide-screen sunglasses for panoramic vision and excellent aerodynamic protection. If we had to choose a pair in the range, our heart would sway on the side of the Julbo Fury and not the Julbo Rush. Lighter glasses at 25g compared to 38g. The protection is the same with a more refined design. We also don’t have these nasty visible screws, that are on the Rush.

The Julbo Fury are fun to wear in more ways than one. The first reason is the usual Julbo lens’ undeniable high-quality. We tested them with a Photochromic Reactive lens. The details and contrasts are perfectly managed. There is no visual distortion, especially on the side, as is often the case even with high-end products. There is also no “shimmer” effect at the bottom of the lens like some polarized lenses. The Julbo Fury has a large panoramic screen, with a frame that remains discreet in the field of vision.

The lens is not subject to fogging because there is plenty of air circulation. Julbo, unlike the Rush, gave the Fury side and top-edge ventilation.

In terms of sun protection the lens is effective. They are very bright, which is a quality but also limiting if the there’s very strong sunshine (bike riding over a pass in the height of summer). One of the strong points of the Fury that we didn’t also point out on the Julbo Rush is their ability to manage the bright/shadow passages: when you are off-road and go into a forest and then into full sun, or when you enter a tunnel for example.

The sweat flows nicely without clinging to the lens and escapes from the bottom edge. The oleophobic treatment is effective. The lens does keep marks from your sweat (obvious).

When the lens is spotless, you can see some reflections on the sides but nothing annoying.

The frame is flexible enough not to cause pressure points. Even if the arms aren’t customizable (like on the Julbo Rush) they seem better designed to us: they are thin, flexible, and non-slip. They slide easily over or under your helmet straps. They help them stay on your head, something that Julbo glasses often have trouble performing.

The noise of the hinges is a bit cheap and the Fury makes a little noise when you handle them: which is normal as the lens is not fully fixed at the top and sides to facilitate air flow. But once on your face, the Julbo Fury are silent.

The product comes with a textile pouch and a semi-rigid storage case that is too small, a huge disappointment for such an expensive product (175 euros).

If we had to choose between the Julbo Rush and the Fury, there’s no hesitation, we’d take the Fury. They are lighter, the photochromic lens is just as efficient, they have a less chunky design and ventilation that eliminates any fogging.
