Among the wide range of sunglasses designed for trail running and cycling, we chose to test a model featuring a photochromic lens and a stylish violet colorway.
Once in action, the Julbo Intensity Violet Reactiv immediately stands out for its exceptional lightness. Our scale measured it at exactly 19 grams, fully consistent with Julbo’s claimed weight. The second striking impression concerns the lens clarity in low-light conditions and its protection under bright sunlight. Thanks to its photochromic technology, the lens adapts almost instantly to changing light conditions, making these sunglasses remarkably versatile. The lens reacts very quickly when moving between bright and shaded environments. In the absence of light, it becomes nearly transparent, which is particularly useful when finishing a long cycling ride at dusk while still wanting protection from the wind.
We did not observe any optical distortion, only a few very minor reflections under certain lighting conditions.
The lens does not retain sweat droplets and is highly resistant to fogging. Extremely lightweight and thin, it is not excessively rigid, which proves beneficial during minor impacts, whether from branches while trail running or when handling the glasses while wearing a cycling helmet.
Whether trail running or cycling, the Julbo Intensity Violet Reactiv quickly becomes unnoticeable. On the bike, airflow management is effective. We have tested more wraparound lenses, but the advantage of the Julbo Intensity Violet Reactiv lies in its versatility across a broader range of outdoor activities.
When running, the Julbo Intensity Violet Reactiv remains securely in place stride after stride. On some face shapes, the temples could be slightly tighter to provide even more support. The internal grip performs well and does not catch or pull hair.
The nose insert is particularly comfortable. It takes significant perspiration before the Julbo Intensity Violet Reactiv begins to slip.
The Julbo Intensity Violet Reactiv is supplied with both a semi-rigid protective case and a soft textile pouch.
