The Kästle RX 11 raises questions about its place in the brand’s lineup. It’s a matter of flex and width underfoot. Indeed, its 71-millimeter waist width seems to cater initially to advanced skiers or at least those capable of handling this narrowness and accepting the speed of a ski that will engage on edge… A ski that requires lateral balance.
Coupled with this strong character is the sidecut; one discovers a very flexible and lightweight flex. An average skier will appreciate and be able to take advantage of this flexibility, but will be limited by the narrowness and quickness of edge-to-edge transitions. Conversely, an expert skier looking for powerful effects will be excited by the sidecut but will be limited by the flex, resulting in less powerful grip.
The Kästle RX 11 accelerates very quickly, and its limits are quickly apparent, especially when encountering bumps and less flat sections: it loses grip, especially at the front. Its tip is quite wide, resembling a very raised tip typical of all-mountain skis.
One might say that the Kästle RX 11 is an easy ski for someone who wants to ski on hard, groomed snow, without being surprised by a dominant flex.
Initiating turns is not necessarily immediate, as with most Kästle skis; there’s a significant length of edge to manage. If skiing at a moderate speed and wanting to skid, one can feel some resistance in the tip and tail of the Kästle RX 11. It’s not so easy to pivot this ski.
In short turns, we were able to carve. Transitioning from skidding to carving is not easy at all to achieve. It’s a machine for carving turns, but if one wants to suddenly skid, it’s much less straightforward. So, accessibility is a bit lacking.
The Kästle RX 11 boasts excellent finishing and meticulous craftsmanship.
It’s a ski for skiing on edge without being confronted with a difficult-to-manage flex. Accessible carving.
