Némo Chogori 3

We tested this tent over 17-days on a camp on a glacier in Alaska. During its first use we experienced a constant snow storm with 4-meters of snow, wind gusts of 40mph, and temperatures that went down to -20°C.

This Nemp Chogori 3 tent weighs half the amount of its competitors, less than 4kg, it is ultra-compact. Three person tent, ultra-light, with 4 arcs and complete accessories. In extreme conditions you had to have full trust in the quality of the materials…

Right from the start of putting the tent up, we noticed that the structure had been designed according to two key words; “efficiency” and “minimalism”, because the room and the double roof are one unique piece and go up together in one go.

You can assemble it alone or with two people, and is very fast to put up. It is also well-designed to safely put it up in bad weather conditions; wind, rain or snow.

As with most things, a bit of practice setting it up before heading out is always wise. To get to know the arcs and color coding.

Once the dome is erected we noticed the following :

  1. It stands alone.
  2. Make sure you flatten out enough snow as it takes up a lot of space.
  3. It is orange and so easily visible from the sky (planes / emergency services)

As it is autonomous once set-up there is no necessity to put it under extra tension, guy ropes etc, to resist the wind and snow you just need to peg it correctly around its perimeter. Which is very useful for removing snow and also if you need to pitch the tent somewhere with limited space where extra guy rope anchorage is not possible. (Also means you have nothing to trip over when nature calls in the middle of the night).

Inside it is just as interesting, plenty of well thought out pockets, with good volume sizes, even with gusts of wind our stored books and other items did not find themselves on the ground.

4 eyelets et each corner of the ceiling enables you to put up a line to hang stuff. The finishing is no less than Nemo top quality.

The ventilation is a system in the ceiling, classic but functional. Interior zips, exterior zips.

You can keep the inside open and the outside closed, and have air circulation between the two rooves.

The lateral openings (exterior/interior) means you can adjust the ventilation as well, and the clip +Velcro system means you can keep the top of the double ended zip half open.

Cooking with a stove in this low lying tent is not very reassuring. Cooking with two stoves isn’t possible as there isn’t enough room.

But, once we were buried under a meter of snow, and we had built an igloo, we could use it for stocking our kit which was perfect as the entry access is easy and possible from both sides to be able to access outside – this is premium practicality.

And we never had to scrape off the frost on the sides of the tent in the morning.

The real bonus is the possibility of twinning these tents.

In the configuration that we had, with an igloo as our kitchen and for eating, this system enabled us to have a huge living area, which is fantastic when you have to spend two weeks cooped up.

Hi, this tent is the best in his class for cold and rainy weather.
I have used in the Mitre Peninsula, in the island of Tierra del Fuego, in several rainy and very cold nights. At the wake up time you have no water inside, no condensation. Is perfect at all. And light!

Now I want to test a Nemo down sleepingbag. I think the right one will be the Kayu™.

Greetings from the End of the World.
