Even though we had seen the press releases before receiving the product for testing, we were still taken aback by the unique shape and fluid design of these Oakley Velo Kato sunglasses.
Designed to work seamlessly with the brand’s aero helmet, the Velo Kato features a lens manufacturing technology that allows it to mold closely to the contours of the face. The shape is indeed highly complex, with multiple curves that give it a distinctive look.
One of the first things that stands out is the nose area: completely covered by the lens, which fits precisely to the face’s structure.
Another notable feature is the absence of hinges.
Optical quality is exactly what you’d expect. We had some concerns about visibility near the nose area due to the curved design, but we noticed no reflections or distortion. The lens construction and curvature are outstanding. One small drawback: the nose pad area is a bit tricky to clean—especially after intense sweating.
Out on the road, there’s no doubt about it—the aerodynamics of the Oakley Velo Kato are excellent: no wind noise, no air hitting the eyes, perfect grip on the nose, and comfortable temples. Clarity and precision of vision are top-notch. Excellent protection as well.
The sunglasses come in a sturdy, well-designed hard case.
