The Osprey Heritage Scarab 30 pack is original because it has a vintage look while providing its unique features. It is in fact made up of two semi-rigid and thick parts (1cm), which fold up to almost form a cylinder shape.
Depending on the volume that you want, the pack offers a modular volume. You just play with the side straps’ length. What are the advantages? Convenience and speed! The other positive point is how the pack looks: a very fluid and continuous shape, which is very aesthetic. We remember the army Sergeant who always insisted that your backpack was pakced in a very consistent way so that on the outside the pack had a nice shape!
The other bonus concerns the protection at the sides, especially for fragile personal items: the thick casing filters out any knocks and blows. You can also put your pack in any position, your computer, camera, binoculars are all spared from shocks.
What are this system’s disadvantages? The excess straps that must be wedged inside when in the “low volume” configuration.
Even if it’s listed as a little “technical” pack, the Osprey Heritage Scarab 30, as always with the American brand, focuses on carrying comfort. The basic looking back, straps, and belt do a very good job.
The pack is compatible with a water bladder. It fully opens with a wide zip for quick access (you still have to loosen the tightening straps). They use 100% recycled fabric. There is an ice axe carrying strap, just in case.
So, what’s missing on this Osprey Heritage Scarab 30? We would’ve liked some reflective bands for returning at night or for urban cycling.
The Osprey Heritage Scarab 30 pack is a clever product, well designed, tough and very practical. It is an everyday backpack that cleverly adapts its volume to your transport needs. Thanks to its semi-rigid shell, it protects personal belongings from any shocks.
