These are the Evo 2 de la Scott Supertac RC. The shoes that we see on runners’ feet on the Skyrace circuit.
Let’s point out immediately, these shoes are not aimed at your run-of-the-mill runners. This Scott Supertrac RC 2 is designed for a specific use.
Runners who have a mid-foot foot strike and better still, fore foot, will appreciate this racing beast designed for technical and rugged terrain. The Scott Supertrac RC 2 has a narrow and snug fit, especially the toe box, which has minimum volume. Ditto on the instep which should not be too pronounced. The foot strike is very precise, there’s very little sole overhang, little risk of anything catching on a rock (no protruding lugs).
The feeling you get with the Scott Supertrac RC 2 is reminiscent of some precise minimalist shoes that have direct ground contact: you lose no balance in proprioception. You have torsional rigidity at the rear 2/3 of the shoe while at the front, the foot can adapt to the terrain.
Designed for vertical lines, this Scott Supertrac RC 2 doesn’t have much in the way of cushioning. Filtration is present at the heel, but it is very light. The runner who seeks comfort at all costs will try something else or run short distances. With these Scott, you are in a racing car seat.
One of the strengths of the Scott Supertrac RC 2 is the sole’s grip. It has been improved since the previous model. Scott says the rubber’s lifespan has also been extended, which we have not been able to confirm. It’s weird that Scott kept the rounded lugs under the big toe, it’s the only place where the sole holds onto a little mud. Anyway, the grip is powerful and very reliable in soft ground and sketchy areas like slabs, rocks, ridge routes, etc.
Let’s focus on the upper material, the Schoeller coldblack. To our knowledge, very few brands use this product. This surface is very waterproof, you can see the water repellency at work as soon as there is a little moisture on the ground. It has high resistance to friction. What’s wrong with it? It is a bit “stiff” but isn’t really a problem, we rather have the impression that your feet are very protected, and you just lose a little fluidity (forward flexion). In any case, you don’t have the feeling that the shoes are fragile, and they don’t weigh much, 270g in size 42.5.
The lacing is accurate and requires a little care to begin with but then it doesn’t budge. The tongue does not drift off sideways (very good adjustment system). Despite how thin it is, it fulfills its function well.
The heel area is well protected, and the foam padding is effective. The heel is well held in the shoe. The stone guard protects perfectly, no complaints here.
We really like the very careful manufacturing. Only one seam is visible. The materials are put together with great care, really superb. Overall, they have a very beautiful, fluid design, whilst also being aggressive.
The Scott Supertrac RC 2 is aimed at expert runners, comfortable in technical terrain that require high-precision foot positioning. Narrow, minimalist cushioning, close to the ground in its feeling, you can Skyrun with confidence. This demanding but very powerful product won the Test4outside Core Award.
