We are more used to testing larger-capacity backpacks. This time, we are looking at a lightweight, simple, low-tech and affordable pack, designed for day hikes when you want to carry as little weight as possible.
With a stated capacity of 15 liters, the The North Face Basin 15 belongs to the category of everyday backpacks that can be used for a wide range of purposes. Carefully made from durable materials, including Ripstop fabric, it is not particularly fragile and should stand the test of time. The main compartment can hold a jacket or food, as well as a small hydration bladder. Naturally, the hydration tube has a dedicated outlet leading to the shoulder strap.
The zipped top pocket keeps your keys and phone safely stored. Two mesh side pockets provide additional storage options on the The North Face Basin 15, as does the external central stash pocket. A nice touch: the The North Face Basin 15 is equipped with two side compression straps to improve load stability.
One thing to keep in mind: although the The North Face Basin 15 carries comfortably — thanks in part to its semi-rigid back panel — this is a small-capacity pack, so it should not be overloaded. The shoulder straps are well padded, but they are not designed to support heavy loads for extended periods. The sternum strap is not height-adjustable, which limits your ability to fine-tune the fit. This is even more noticeable because the The North Face Basin 15 does not have a hip belt. If we had to choose, we would have preferred a hip belt over the rather impractical sternum strap.
The straps slide smoothly, and the zipper is easy to operate. Available in three colors. It is also suitable for children.
A compact daypack that is sturdy, well made, practical and durable, designed for traveling light. Just don’t overload it. Affordable price.
