The Atomic boots range is based on three metatarsal widths: narrow (98 mm), intermediate (100 mm) and wide (102 mm).
The Atomic Hawx Prime 130 S belongs in the intermediate category at 100 mm and 130 flex. The testers were overall impressed by them. You must of course have the correct morphology. What is most noticeable at first glance is their lightness, 1765g in size 27.5. The Prolite construction eliminated superfluous grams and are 25% lighter in comparison to conventional models. Rigidity is present though, and this is important to mention because with most brands when the model is lighter, the rigidity is lost.
The Atomic Hawx Prime 130 S are not easy to put on, you have to use the two straps on the top of the liner and slip your foot in. Skiing, they are relatively precise and have efficient lateral energy transfer. The 130 flex is well dosed and giving comfortable flexing. Overall comfort was described as “firm” but their precision was rated as “interesting” for feet corresponding to a 100 mm size.
No doubts on the quality of the buckles. They ensure fast and powerful tightening without crushing the shell. The wide strap (50 mm, classic on a shoe of this range) is equipped with a beautiful metal buckle that is convenient to use.
The sole is non-slip, which is very reassuring and extremely comfortable for all times when walking.
The Atomic Hawx Prime 130 S are a serious product, well-made, and performant. Not necessarily flamboyant, slightly austere looking. But the lightness, rigidity, precision and grip of the sole in walking mode are well appreciated.
