The Völkl Blaze 106 is a wide ski, very light in action, also light to carry.
It seems generally quite flexible like this, and indeed it is on the snow, with a tail that allows for repositioning and avoiding getting trapped. The Völkl Blaze 106 allows for extending the radius, adapting the curve to one’s desires. You remain in control of the situation at all times.
Attention, if skied forward or centered, on edge, the Völkl Blaze 106 becomes a ski with a very large, super effective radius for making straight lines. Of course, you can adjust the radius, but it becomes a bit more complex. In essence, it’s a ski for making big curves at high speed and enjoying powder without getting trapped.
In pivot, the Völkl Blaze 106 immediately flattens out. The leverage is significant if you want to make angulation.
At high speed, with its tip rocker (it also has rocker at the back), it taps a bit on the front, but nothing too serious. However, you might feel a bit more serene in big chunks. At a less sustained speed, the Völkl Blaze 106 handles very well.
Its ease in pivot is very pleasant in powder; we’ve seen easier in this area, but the raised attitudes manage well. We would have liked a bit more rocker on the front. The Völkl Blaze 106 remains a ski for skiers, meaning the edge is present, you need to be clear with your balances. The Völkl Blaze 106 is made for those who know how to carve, maintain accelerations. In narrow slopes, you can make carved turns.
One of the criticisms that can be made of the Völkl Blaze 106 is its relative weakness in terms of materials in the tip and tail: they tend to mark quickly in case of impacts.
The Völkl Blaze 106 is a fairly high-performing ski for off-piste skiing, where it prefers big curves. Its main asset: its ease in pivot. An effective tool, not trapping in off-piste.
