The Blizzard Firebird HRC was tested in the 175 cm length (radius of 15.8 m). Apart from slightly less impressive glide, this is an excellent ski, powerful yet easy to handle. The flex and construction are very well thought out. The bindings don’t interfere with ski management, thanks to a linear flex (no stiff zones underfoot).
You can go really fast on the Blizzard Firebird HRC, which has very solid edge grip. The standout feature is the ski’s docility. You can lay it flat, quickly switch to a carved directional effect, or go from a sliding/drifting effect to carving — all depending on your choice! The Blizzard Firebird HRC handles all directional effects with ease. It never gets stuck in one type of turn radius; you always have the option to exit the curve, which is very comfortable, especially on crowded pistes. In large high-speed turns, you can instantly flatten the ski if necessary.
In short turns, if you focus on the tip, it grips and propels you forward. This is its second key feature: its energy return. Let’s be clear, this is not a racing ski, but it’s very enjoyable at the end of a turn — it gives you a kick. You can feel that it has power underfoot. It’s always very smooth but with a subtle kick of power. You sense that if you push harder, it will pick up speed.
There’s no trouble managing the Blizzard Firebird HRC’s turn. Front-to-back balance doesn’t have to be perfect. It enters turns quickly. The tip vibrates a lot. On hard snow, in steep terrain, the tip is the weak point of this Blizzard Firebird HRC.
A very good ski, well-made, with a precise design. The topsheet is fairly durable. It feels heavy to carry but doesn’t feel cumbersome on snow.
An excellent product for an instructor, for example. Relatively powerful, grippy, and smooth. Solid underfoot. It responds well. First Award.
