Designed for fast hiking, the Columbia Escape Thrive Titanium Mid Outdry boasts a lightweight build, weighing in at just 415 grams on our scale. That’s lighter than the Merrell Rogue Hiker Mid GTX.
This Columbia model allows you to move quickly (or at a more relaxed pace), helping conserve energy on ascents while still offering the protective benefits of a true MID hiking shoe.
We greatly appreciated this very comfortable shoe—both in terms of its soft foot-hugging fit and, more importantly, its cushioning. The level of shock absorption is high, providing excellent rebound with each stride and effective impact reduction during hikes. There’s also a slight rolling motion in the step: over time, we’ll need to see if the midsole foam compresses, which could cause the shoe to tilt toward overpronation. Heavier hikers should keep an eye on this. For others, the shoe feels smooth and agile underfoot—lightweight and responsive.
The Columbia Escape Thrive Titanium Mid Outdry offers excellent forefoot protection without any stiffness in that area. The ankle area is particularly well-designed, with ample foam padding for added comfort. Lacing takes a bit of attention due to the flat laces, but once tightened, the thick tongue stays nicely in place.
The outsole doesn’t accumulate mud and offers reliable grip on most surfaces.
Sizing runs slightly large, seemingly designed to be worn with thicker hiking socks.
A very solid lightweight option for fast hiking that provides strong foot protection, high comfort, and excellent cushioning. It earns a Hot Deal Award for its impressive value for money.
