The X-Bionic X-Country Perform socks are officially designed for cross-country skiing, but in practice, they’re versatile enough to be used year-round (despite X-Bionic offering a wide range of sport-specific products—trail running, running, etc.).
These socks are thin, with a dense and refined knit (technically, “knitting” is the proper term).
Multiple knitting techniques are used throughout, creating technical zones with different functions.
The X-Country Perform socks are mid-height, rising just above the ankle bones, making them suitable for both low-cut and mid-cut footwear.
At key impact areas—the base of the toes, heel, Achilles tendon, and lower calf—a cushioned, reinforced material is used. This padding is soft and plush, providing excellent shock absorption, support during extended activity, and helping to reduce friction and hot spots.
Additional thinner reinforcements appear on top of the foot and along either side of the shin bone to protect against pressure or rubbing from higher-cut shoes or boots.
A specially designed, highly breathable (almost ventilated) mesh band runs from the sole up along the inner side of the leg. This effective ventilation zone limits sweating and enhances drying.
Another standout feature is the “Supronation Bandage”, a compression band around the midfoot that mimics athletic strapping. According to X-Bionic, it “supports healthy foot posture and reduces stress on the ankle and joint.” In practice, we found it hard to clearly confirm this effect during testing.
The X-Bionic X-Country Perform socks are thin, elastic, and easy to put on, while offering a snug, supportive fit. The light compression is particularly welcome for post-activity recovery.
As mentioned, these socks can be used not only for cross-country skiing but also for hiking, snowshoeing, trekking, trail running, and more. However, they’re not warm enough for use in extremely cold conditions.
We noticed that while feet sweat relatively quickly, the socks dry very fast. The Skin Nodor technology works well, minimizing odors during use, and any remaining smell disappears completely after washing.
Thanks to their composition and tight knitting, the X-Country Perform socks are extremely durable. They resist stretching, snagging, and maintain their shape.
They handle multiple 40°C washes with no issues and dry very quickly.
The socks feature ultra-flat seams that are almost imperceptible, preventing any friction at the toes—something we truly appreciated during extended wear.
