What a statement! The Vuarnet Artic 02 sunglasses definitely don’t go unnoticed. Their design — a blend between classic glacier sunglasses and something straight out of a Hollywood wardrobe — is simply striking. We love the metal side shields, which stylishly replace the traditional leather covers found on high-altitude guide glasses. The frame is crafted from titanium and acetate, with a brushed metal finish that adds an elegant touch.
A removable leather strap lets you wear them around your neck — a practical feature, especially since these Vuarnets are in the high-end range (over €500). Dropping them off a cliff or into a crevasse would be a costly mistake. Thankfully, the strap is easy to attach and detach.
The category 3 mineral lenses provide excellent filtration and deliver crystal-clear vision. There’s a subtle gradient tint at the top and bottom, a nod to the Vuarnet styles from the 1980s and ’90s.
That said, the lenses don’t wrap around the face, so despite the side shields, light can still enter from the sides — meaning these don’t offer the same level of protection as true glacier sunglasses. In our view, the Vuarnet Artic 02 leans more toward style than pure mountain functionality. It’s a beautifully made accessory that deserves care and attention. In short, you’re more likely to picture yourself driving a convertible or lounging on a ski resort terrace than summiting the Aiguille Verte in Chamonix with these.
The Artic 02 comes with a stylish white case, a cord to secure the case, a mini carabiner, and a cleaning cloth — a premium presentation for a premium product.
The only real downside is the weight: at 60 grams, they’re heavier than most performance sunglasses. The nose pads are also quite firm, and over time, you may feel pressure and discomfort on the bridge of the nose.
All in all, this is a stunning pair of sunglasses, inspired by glacier eyewear but reinterpreted with sophistication. A true luxury item for outdoor enthusiasts who value both performance and aesthetics.
