We discovered this sunglasses brand that has a range dedicated to sports. We mainly tested the Izipizi Speed road cycling on distances up to 120 kilometers in warm and cold temperatures.
We were surprised by several of this product’s aspects: price, overall quality and comfort.
The Izipizi Speed are displayed at 60 euros, 70 euros in the polarized version. When other brands display stratospheric prices that brush with 200 euros, even more sometimes (Oakley Radar EV Path), Izipizi land in the market with reasonable prices, in other words, astounding prices. The main question is, are they cheapo sunglasses? You could be suspicious and imagine the worst. It isn’t the case. So, there is a problem with prices on the market, how do they justify such high prices for products that aren’t better (and sometimes worse) than these Isipizi? Does it concern their toughness against shocks (they follow the standard norm), maybe particular optical characteristics (centring)? … the question is open.
So, here we have a quality lens, very panoramic, which doesn’t show any distortions on the edges or the top and bottom. There’s no structure on the nose (like the Julbo Fury that obstructs your field of vision. Contrasts are present but not excessive and detailing is perfect. The blues and greys are boosted but not too much. The light and shad are well managed despite the category 3 lens. We also tested the brown lens for sunny conditions needing good protection. We tested these Izipizi Speed on the snow (the brand presents these as a multi-season product).
Despite many weeks on summer roads, we didn’t experience any headaches due to the lens.
Sweat rolls off the lens and leaves the classic salty mark. This is probably where the Izipizi may lose a few points, as some brands provide anti-mark treatments.
Cleaning the Izipizi Speed is easy thanks to the lined bag that also doubles as a waistbelt carrying bag. The closing cord would benefit from a blocking system. The bag is well proportioned, and the sunglasses slip inside easily. Obviously, it is soft so doesn’t provide good protection in a backpack.
If you wear them when it’s really hot the Izipizi Speed don’t slide down your nose. You forget you’re wearing them because they are so lightweight, 27g, the same as the Julbo Fury, slightly lighter than the Smith Attack. They slide easily under a bike helmet not touching the base of the helmet. Even though the arms don’t have anti-slip covering they stay in place on your head. The shape of the narrow arms (slide easily under or over the helmet straps) are well designed and contribute to the good head hold. Of course, it’s essential to try them to see if they correspond to your head morphology.
The large, curved lens is good protection from the wind. We didn’t get any insects or air flow inside that made our eyes water.
You’d need to check for long term toughness, but they certainly held up fine with intensive road biking use: being stuffed inside the jersey, being dropped on the ground, etc.
These Izipizi Speed are very good, the value for money is definitely in their favour. Lightweight, protective and comfortable, the Speed are very good sunglasses that you can purchase without breaking the bank and that are a very good product. Our team quite rightly gave them the HOT DEAL Award.
