A thoroughly enjoyable ski that, despite its relatively short effective edge, pivots effortlessly. Flat or skidded turns come naturally, with no resistance. The Stöckli Montero AS feels glued to the snow—its modest tip rocker translates to a direct, solid edge contact that inspires confidence. It delivers a great sense of security, especially when carving at high speeds with strong edge angles.
On hardpack, the Montero AS consistently delivers. There’s real substance underfoot—you can feel the density of its construction. It’s slightly heavy to carry, but once on snow, that extra weight disappears. The short length and low tip inertia make it responsive and composed. It barely vibrates, tracks cleanly, and isn’t overly shaped. This is a refined All-Mountain ski we really enjoyed—an expertly engineered product with undeniable skiability.
Off-piste, the Montero AS’s low tip rise limits deep-snow performance, requiring precision and balance. However, its relatively wide shovel provides some support, making it well-suited to sidecountry terrain or soft spring snow.
At high speed, the Montero AS is rock solid. The tip never folds, the tail is powerful yet forgiving—it won’t lock you into turns or oversteer. The flex pattern is impressively smooth and consistent. While its preferred turn radius doesn’t vary much, transitions between turn shapes are progressive, predictable, and composed. Push it hard and it delivers—there’s plenty of power on tap. Edge grip is outstanding, and performance ratings were “high” across the board.
Despite the limited rocker, it handles moguls surprisingly well, absorbing impacts without kicking back into the legs.
The metal tip protector can occasionally catch when skis cross, which can be surprising, but overall finish quality is superb. The top sheet is durable and protective, with selective gloss detailing that adds visual depth. A textured grip zone on the top sheet makes carrying easier, and the metal tail plate adds a touch of elegance. Glide performance is excellent across all snow types.
In short, the Montero AS is impeccably built—solid, durable, and true to Stöckli’s reputation for craftsmanship. A high-performance yet accessible ski, perfect for advanced riders or instructors who value precision, comfort, and control. A pleasure ski that never fights back—easy to drift, confident when pushed.
