On a long trail run, the Inov8 TrailFly Max feels like a trustworthy companion — a shoe that can handle most of the challenges the terrain throws at you.
Where to begin? Probably with its stability and lack of lateral roll, which is becoming increasingly rare in today’s trail shoes. Many modern models prioritize cushioning at the expense of stability — not the case here. The TrailFly Max is cushioned, but in a subtle, balanced way. It may feel a bit firm over the first few kilometers, but the foam gradually softens, offering good shock absorption without sacrificing control.
While the TrailFly Max isn’t the most responsive or dynamic shoe out there, it’s comfortable to run in, especially because it holds up well on off-camber sections, during descents (thanks to the grippy outsole), and in rocky terrain, where the toe bumper offers solid protection.
The seamless construction is also worth mentioning. The flat laces are quite long, so a double knot is essential. Foot lockdown strikes a nice balance between comfort and precision.
In summary, the Inov8 TrailFly Max is a reliable, confidence-inspiring shoe — the kind you can lace up and forget about, knowing it will have your back over the long haul.
