With the PRT Moose, the brand Protest offers an affordable women’s shell jacket that doesn’t skimp on performance. When it comes to waterproofing, wind protection, and comfort, this jacket definitely delivers.
Let’s address the two factors that kept it from winning the Hot Deal award, which recognizes the best value-for-money product. First, the Protest PRT Moose is on the heavy side—almost as heavy as an insulated jacket. Second, some of the finishing touches, luckily only on the inside, could use improvement: overlapping materials, visible and somewhat rough stitching…
Other than that, the Protest PRT Moose fully meets the expectations of a ski jacket designed for long hours on the slopes. Bonus point: it’s stylish too, with a cut and design that were both appreciated.
The hood is very effective—snug without being restrictive. The zippers operate smoothly and are mostly waterproof, except for the underarm ventilation zips. The stretch fabric moves well with the body and is tough enough to carry skis on the shoulder without worrying about tears.
Waterproofing is solid. Like most jackets built around a membrane, the PRT Moose is more waterproof than breathable.
The velcro wrist straps are excellent for tightening the sleeves over gloves. The soft fabric inner cuffs are very comfortable. Just a heads-up: this is a shell jacket, so the Protest PRT Moose does not include insulation.
A very good protective jacket for skiing on a budget. Stylish and technically sound, it’s a pleasure to wear on the slopes.
