We tested the Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Zip Off Pants alongside the matching Kvitfjell Race Insulated Jacket. Like the jacket, these pants are part of the collection designed for the Norwegian national alpine ski teams.
The Kvitfjell Race Zip Off Pant is designed to keep athletes warm while waiting for their race start — but it also works exceptionally well for dedicated alpine skiers who want technical performance on groomed slopes.
The standout feature is the near-full-length side zippers, which allow the pants to be put on or taken off without removing your ski boots. The double zippers glide smoothly and are easy to operate. They’re not waterproof, however — only the pocket zippers are sealed.
These are insulated pants, using Primaloft, which offers effective warmth without overheating. The pants feel flexible and comfortable, striking a great balance between insulation and mobility. The outer shell offers good weather protection, though the non-waterproof side zips remain a weak point in heavy snow or wet conditions.
Comfort at the waist is enhanced by Velcro adjustment tabs, and suspenders can be added if desired.
In summary, the Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Zip Off Pant is a high-performance alpine ski pant featuring easy on/off access over boots, effective Primaloft insulation, and technical materials. Paired with the Kvitfjell Race Jacket, it makes for an excellent ski outfit — ideal for both racers and demanding piste skiers.
