As we often say when it comes to Protest gear, the value for money is very appealing (unbeatable, even?). It’s not just about a reasonable price tag — you’re also getting real style. Let’s do the math: the Protest Gea jacket and Adan pants come in at €199.99 + €169.99, for a total of €369.98. As you’ll see by the end of this review, performance is far from being sacrificed…
This jacket is both a protective outer shell and an insulating layer — a puffy jacket equipped with a membrane that can (and should) be worn on the slopes, but also works perfectly for everyday winter wear. It strikes a great balance between functionality and fashion. The denim effect, highlighted seams, and large pockets give it a strong, structured silhouette.
The Protest Gea has a substantial feel — in terms of both bulk and weight. Right away, you feel protected from the cold. One of the first things you’ll notice is the excellent neck protection thanks to a high collar that’s perfect for braving icy winds. One note though: the hood doesn’t fit over a helmet.
This jacket is warm, fairly waterproof in wet snow or light rain, and comfortable to wear — the fabric has a slight stretch to it. The cut allows for free movement. The cuffs feature ultra-comfortable inner sleeves with thumbholes for added warmth and security.
The snow skirt is effective, even though it’s not removable. The central zipper (not waterproof) runs smoothly. A chin guard keeps the zip from irritating your face. The front pockets are absolutely massive. However, be aware: the lift pass pocket — like all other pockets — is secured with Velcro. This is our only real criticism of the Protest Gea: Velcro just isn’t secure enough. A zip closure would be better, especially for the wallet pocket.
Breathability is what you’d expect from a thick, fiber-filled jacket. It’s clearly designed more for warmth than for moisture-wicking, so you’ll want to manage your layering accordingly.
We really liked the embossed Protest logo on the left sleeve. The waist drawcords are strong and effective. Washing instructions: 30°C, hand wash only.
