Kästle RX12 GS

In terms of dimensions, the Kästle RX12 GS is identical to the RX11. We tested it in the 178 cm length. The RX12 GS construction favors full vertical sidewalls.

On snow, the Kästle RX12 GS allows you to ski fast — very fast — thanks to its stability and long effective edge. It stays glued to the snow. The tip doesn’t move or chatter at all.

You can really push hard on this ski, especially when it comes to edge hold on hardpack and ice. It handles deep edge angles at very high speeds with confidence. Yet, it’s not scary to ski — the RX12 GS maintains a well-tempered flex, which is not always the case with GS skis derived from racing.

The big advantage of the Kästle RX12 GS is its adaptability: you’re not forced to ski it on edge at high speed all the time. You can flatten it out fairly easily, or drift it — it takes a bit of technique, but it comes fairly naturally. It’s actually quite versatile for a ski in this category. In flat pivots, it’s surprisingly compliant.

On hard snow, the RX12 GS holds strongly to its turn radius and pulls you along decisively. In this context, it requires active engagement. At medium speeds, it becomes a bit less forgiving on edge. But at higher speeds, it has a smooth snow feel and a very progressive response.

A royal ski for direct lines. It’s built for aggressive skiing, but it can also be skied in a more relaxed style — in the hands of a capable skier. The construction makes it somewhat demanding, but not overpowering or exclusive. Its main strengths? Edge grip and its surprising accessibility for a high-performance ski.

A beautifully made ski, with a durable top sheet that resists scratches well. The metal heel piece is a nice touch. The only minor letdown: the screwed-in tip protector, which slightly detracts from the otherwise premium finish.

Ideal for a sporty skier looking to enjoy big, arcing turns on groomers. The difference between the RX12 GS and the RX11 isn’t huge. The RX12 GS is better suited to former racers who like to push hard, while the RX11 is more accessible, yet still very capable.
