Salomon Shift Supra 120

The Salomon Shift Supra 120 is equipped with Low Tech inserts, allowing it to be used with touring bindings. Designed for All Mountain skiing, the Shift Supra 120 can also deliver enjoyable free-touring sessions, provided that the vertical gain remains reasonable. Indeed, with a relatively moderate weight of 1,920 grams, it does not fall into the pure ski touring category.

With a 120 flex rating, the Salomon Shift Supra 120 is fairly stiff and very precise. Skiers with a “Salomon-shaped” foot will appreciate the fit, which allows effective control of skis with a flex that isn’t overly demanding.

The BOA system is highly effective, providing a powerful yet precise closure. One distinctive feature of the Shift Supra 120 is the instep strap, which is not particularly attractive from a design standpoint—an addition of questionable aesthetic value. However, its effectiveness in terms of tightening and support is undeniable.

The two upper cuff buckles are lightweight, touring-style buckles, and they do their job well. Entry into the boot is not especially easy and requires a bit of effort. The same applies when taking the boot off, which also demands some energy.

At the top of the Salomon Shift Supra 120, there is a very good, classic-style power strap that performs well.

The Salomon Shift Supra 120 features a ski/walk mode operated via a left-to-right mechanism. Unlike the traditional lever system found on most boots, Salomon’s solution is particularly interesting: it’s easy to use and, above all, allows the boot to be switched into walk mode even when the cuff buckles are closed. This provides sufficient range of motion for modest ascents or simply for walking around the resort or elsewhere.

Sole grip is good, with well-balanced rubber. We did experience some cold in the forefoot area. Even though the liner appears well made, there are likely some aspects of its design that could be improved.

The heel shape is well designed, and the matte black plastic looks great. However, the Salomon Shift Supra 120 loses points in terms of aesthetics due to the uninspired instep area.

Overall, this is an interesting boot for skiers who don’t want an overly stiff model. A true All Mountain product offering a good level of versatility.
