The LCF-Outdoor Recon is a ski sock featuring a highly complex knitting structure. Materials are precisely mapped to specific areas of the foot and lower leg. The foot wrap is extremely accurate; while it doesn’t quite qualify as compression, the overall fit is impressive. You really feel that you’re wearing a precise sock, completely free of wrinkles, despite its relatively substantial thickness.
Inside a ski boot, the LCF-Outdoor Recon is very comfortable to wear, offering an appealing balance between warmth and precision. You maintain good contact with the boot shell, allowing for precise ski control without suffering from cold feet.
In terms of thermal insulation, the LCF-Outdoor Recon is made with one-third Merino wool. Compared to the previously tested LCF-Outdoor Vanoise sock, the level of warmth is almost identical, but the Recon delivers significantly better precision and support. As expected, the LCF-Outdoor Recon comes at a higher price point: €33 versus €20.
We appreciated the fine terry loops, as well as the Recon’s ability to avoid overheating while still providing sufficient warmth for cold January conditions. The sock stays securely in place on the calf. Build quality is excellent, with meticulous attention to detail.
While fine terry loops are present along the shin crest, this concept could be pushed further with even more pronounced padding in that area.
The LCF-Outdoor Recon is suitable for both men and women and can be machine washed at 30°C.
