We tested the Sun Valley Invader ski tights in a wide range of winter conditions, and they proved well suited to outdoor use, even though their designers clearly placed a strong emphasis on style. These tights feature a very close-to-the-body fit that enhances the silhouette—a modern reinterpretation of the iconic ski pants of the 1980s and 1990s.
We first appreciated their level of waterproofing: water beads up and runs off the surface without penetrating the fabric, making them a real barrier against moisture. The waterproof rating is 15,000 Schmerbers, which is perfectly adequate for standard use, though not comparable to a truly technical, fully protective ski pant, typically rated between 20,000 and 30,000 Schmerbers. That said, the highly competitive price of the Sunvalley Invader must be taken into account: €129. By comparison, technical ski pants now often reach prices of around €850. Once again, the Sunvalley Invader clearly prioritizes style and aesthetics.
The windproof performance is also very effective, providing long-lasting protection against wind chill. The Sunvalley Invader does not focus on breathability, and this is a deliberate choice: priority is clearly given to protection from the elements, which we find relevant for winter activities involving low cardiovascular intensity.
The robust fabric inspires confidence in terms of durability. When it comes to care, only minimal precautions are required: washing at 30°C and no tumble drying. That said, this is hardly restrictive, as the fabric dries very quickly.
Thanks to its elastane content, the Sun Valley Invader ski tights are particularly comfortable. They move naturally with the body and adapt easily to different body shapes. The inner lining, both soft and warm, allows the tights to be worn directly against the skin without the need for a base layer, enhancing overall ease of use.
We were also impressed by the high waist and wide elastic waistband featuring Sunvalley branding. It provides excellent support without compressing the abdomen, ensuring outstanding comfort even during prolonged activity. The side opening with an invisible zipper adds a refined aesthetic touch. It is backed by an inner strip that improves comfort and prevents pinching when putting the tights on, although we note that this zipper is not waterproof.
The long cut will particularly suit those with medium to long legs. True to the tights design, the fit tapers gradually down to the ankles without feeling overly tight like leggings. The stretch fabric makes it easy to pull over the tops of hiking boots or Nordic ski boots. We also note that this model runs rather large, something to consider when choosing your size.
