The North Face has decades of expertise in protective jackets. This The North Face Valley View Jacket, although not the most technical product in the range, delivers excellent overall performance. Originally designed for hiking, its use can — and should — extend to most outdoor sports. The jacket is lightweight, flexible, waterproof, and durable.
This three-layer The North Face Valley View Jacket is very well cut: roomy enough to wear insulating mid-layers underneath, yet close-fitting enough not to restrict movement. The fabric is also stretchable.
For a versatile jacket designed to protect against bad weather, the mission is clearly accomplished. Waterproofing was judged to be very effective during our tests. The central zipper and pocket zippers are waterproof. The hand pockets and underarm ventilation zips are equipped with protective flaps. It is also worth noting that the main zipper operates extremely smoothly.
Protection around the neck is beyond question, as is the enveloping hood design. The hood can be adjusted with a single adjustment point located behind the head. The waist adjustment system is positioned on the left-hand side.
The wrist area is generously sized, making it easy to accommodate thick layers and even a large GPS watch. The Velcro adjustment tabs provide a very secure fit.
The fabric is durable enough to handle contact with bushes or rock surfaces without concern. The The North Face Valley View Jacket can be packed into one of its own pockets and is machine washable at 40°C.
An efficient, lightweight jacket that offers enough protection to handle bad weather conditions. Easy to use and highly practical. Award: First Test 4outside.
