Asics Fujispeed 4

The Asics Fujispeed 4 is designed for speed sessions and for fast, rolling sections of trail where you’re pushing the pace and accelerating. This shoe is equipped with a Pebax plate to enhance responsiveness. Despite having a relatively thinner midsole compared to some oversized models, it still offers solid ground protection and absorbs trail feedback well.

We really liked this Asics Fujispeed 4 because, with its rather “traditional” look, it delivers a true and direct connection to the ground. Let us explain… Testers described the Fujispeed 4 as a very stable and trustworthy shoe. Foot placement feels solid and well-balanced, especially laterally — no wobble or instability to report. This kind of stability is becoming increasingly rare in shoes that are overly cushioned, tall, and built with overly soft foams. With the Fujispeed 4, foot strikes are precise and clean, allowing runners to pick up the pace and take full advantage of the shoe’s energy return.

Forefoot strikers will benefit most from this shoe, but midfoot strikers won’t be left out — the Fujispeed 4 performs well with a midfoot gait as well. The forward rocker is efficient without being overly aggressive. Only heel strikers might find the heel a bit firm. Cushioning is well distributed — it’s relatively firm, but present across the entire length of the sole.

The rear of the shoe is narrow, noticeably slimmer than that of the new Asics Fuji Lite 6 (which is more affordable at €140, doesn’t have a Pebax plate, and weighs about 10 grams more per shoe).

The grip of the Fujispeed 4 is very good on non-technical terrain, the kind of trails where speed matters most. On more technical terrain, it quickly becomes apparent that foot protection is minimal and the toe bumper is quite soft. The breathable mesh upper appears durable, although we didn’t run the shoe long enough to fully assess its longevity. First impressions? Asics clearly prioritized weight savings with this model — we weighed it at 240 grams in size EU 42.5.

On the move, the Fujispeed 4 feels invisible on the foot — it lets you accelerate effortlessly. There’s no front-end drag or inertia. Foot lockdown could be slightly better; you’ll need to take some time to fine-tune the lacing. We appreciated the padded tongue cushions that enhance comfort. The flat, ribbed laces stay tied securely — no need for a double knot. The heel is well held and secure.

Another bonus: the Asics Fujispeed 4 barely gains any weight in wet conditions, thanks to the near absence of foam padding.

In short, this is a nimble, lightweight trail shoe, ideal for non-technical, rolling trails. Best suited for shorter distances at higher speeds.
