The release of a new ASICS Gel-Nimbus is our annual rendezvous — a shoe we’ve followed for many seasons through its numerous updates. So what could the developers possibly improve on this already well-accomplished 27th version?
First of all, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 is 20 grams lighter than the previous model. Fair enough. But more importantly, this slight weight reduction in no way affects the overall ride of the shoe.
It remains an ultra-comfortable running shoe with a smooth and efficient stride transition: an effective forward roll and ground contact that prioritizes comfort over pure performance.
The cushioning is plush, with excellent shock absorption that suits long-distance enthusiasts as well as shorter runs requiring maximum comfort. Despite the very present cushioning, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 does not feel unstable or wobbly; it remains well-balanced, particularly during heel strikes. Of course, more performance-oriented runners may opt for a more responsive model within the ASICS range. For everyone else, the picture is excellent, with a superb balance between long-distance comfort and performance.
Beyond its dynamic qualities, we particularly appreciated the soft, secure foot wrap — we even ran several times in the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 without socks.
Step-in comfort is outstanding, the upper wraps the foot perfectly, and the instep area with its elastic tongue is exemplary. The flat laces distribute pressure evenly across the foot.
The heel is pampered with plush padding. The finishing details are meticulous, and the perceived quality is excellent.
A lighter version of the iconic Gel-Nimbus, offering ultra-comfortable foot lockdown. A benchmark for long runs thanks to its well-balanced cushioning. This Nimbus 28 version receives the First Test 4outside award.
