Asics Trabuco Max

FIRST

We only have praise for this Asics Trabuco Max, which won the Test4outside.com First Award hands down.

You discover a shoe with a very thick sole that may give it a clumsy look, yet it isn’t. From our very first strides, we were enthusiastic in discovering a shoe that combines all the qualities (plus a few rare minor flaws) for a long run. Its major quality comes from Asics’ cushioning, which we believe is the most sophisticated on the market. This filtration closely resembles the Asics Gel-Nimbus 23  in its main characteristics: reaching the hard point is progressive but it is not too long either, it is not “soft” or even spongy, it filters without rocking from side to side (very little roll) and above all, the shoe springs you forward. It filters more than, for example, the brand new Hoka One One Mafate Speed 3. This Asics Trabuco Max, despite its imposing size is not inert, you run with pleasure because it filters without sticking you to the ground with cushioning that only absorbs, so it is nimble and assists when fatigue takes over on long distances.

In the downhill it is also present, gripping technical terrain. Even if its high it has minimal roll, you keep a good foot position without having to worry about ankle twisting. It has a 5mm drop (23 in front, 28 behind). Your foot doesn’t slip due to the combination of good envelopment and powerful automatic (and fast) lacing. Be careful not to pull too hard on the big tongue as its edges are fragile and can tear. A large pocket allows you to store excess laces, we would have preferred a deeper flap or a more powerful elastic.

The Asics Trabuco Max’s overall comfort is excellent, we didn’t notice any friction points or hard points on the instep or elsewhere. The heel is comfortably cushioned with thick foam padding. The forefoot is very breathable and with slightly stretchy mesh in this area. The toe box doesn’t provide much volume but lets the toes live. The stone guard is perfectly designed.

The shape of the sole of the Asics Trabuco Max provides a good forward motion to the forefoot. The grip covers many different situations. The front part of the sole bites hard and in the downhill as well.

They are easy to put on thanks to the heel strap. You can also add gaiters as an option. The Asics Trabuco Max logically receives the Test4outside.com FIRST Award. Its sophisticated cushioning, powerful grip, dynamic qualities and foot support enable you to tackle (very) long distances with confidence. A great product.
