We tested the Odlo Seamless Performance Wool set, which Odlo presents as the most technical base layer in its range. We’re used to brands polishing their marketing claims—sometimes a bit too much. But with this set, we have to admit: Odlo has done an outstanding job.
Before getting into the technical aspects of the Odlo Seamless Performance Wool, we need to talk about the price: almost €260. Quite a sum, but for a product that’s durable, extremely well-designed, and ultra-comfortable—essentially a top-end piece worn directly against the skin.
The Odlo Seamless Performance Wool is not a thick, ultra-insulating layer. It’s a base layer, meant to keep the body warm while wicking moisture toward the outer layers. It needs to be paired with a mid layer, an insulating jacket, or even a shell, depending on the classic layering system. This makes the Odlo Seamless Performance Wool a versatile piece suitable for skiing, trail running, cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, and more.
What really sets the Odlo Seamless Performance Wool apart is its exceptional overall comfort. First of all, you don’t feel any seams at all. The neckline, cuffs, and waistband are textbook examples of how they should be designed.
Although the Odlo Seamless Performance Wool is made from 60% Merino wool, the fabric doesn’t itch—no discomfort on the skin whatsoever.
The highly technical fit also plays a major role in the superb comfort: the Odlo Seamless Performance Wool moves seamlessly with the body and becomes completely unnoticeable in use.
Body odours are kept at bay, and drying time is fairly quick thanks to the 40% nylon content.
The full set weighs 330 grams in size M, which can definitely be considered lightweight.
The pants are full-length, going all the way down to the ankles, so you need to tuck them properly under your socks when wearing ski boots. The waistband stays securely in place on the hips and is also very comfortable.
A high-end, very comfortable, lightweight base layer made partly from Merino wool—a near-essential piece for anyone who can afford it.
