With the Atomic Bent 90, we find the spirit of the Bent (Chris Bentchetler) both in its design and skiability. A sublime ski with a magnificent die-cut in the base and you can see the wood thanks to the transparency effect.
In terms of skiability, it is almost like a double-tip ski whose range of action goes from the park to all terrain, to sum it up; a very “versatile ski”.
However, there isn’t that much tail lift, even if it can play tricks when doing duck step.
The Atomic Bent 90 is very easy to pivot, with some edge length at the back (and the same at the front). To begin with it takes some getting used to and you really have to put pressure on it to get a curve. On the flat, all the sliding/skidding effects are easily obtained in all conditions, whether on hard or soft snow, including chop, despite its limited width underfoot.
The Atomic Bent 90 can easily be put on the edge. Well, you do need some angulation and be fairly well-positioned. You start by feeling for the fore and aft. Like most Bent skis, the Atomic Bent 90 is best skied in the middle of the boot. You pick it up, set it on the edge and it glides. It’s nice on big turns, at first you wonder if it will grip. However, if you swing your legs to the side with an angle, it grips well, you can even go very fast even if the front of the ski moves quite a bit. The tip vibrates a lot. So, you have to be a bit careful.
It’s a weightless ski, you don’t feel it in the air, or in the pivots. Maybe some skiers would like a little more weight at the front, but in the end you save yourself a lot of energy due to its lightness.
This Atomic Bent 90 gives pleasure in complicated terrain, bumps, on the edges of the slopes… It absorbs, it doesn’t hit packs of snow, or chop, it’s very pleasant. The test ski was badly prepared, but after we rewaxed it its behaviour was much better. The glide is standard, nothing extraordinary. The top sheet doesn’t get scratched, it is relatively easy to put them in the ski lift holders despite its double tip. A ski that does not stand up because of the rounded tail.
Radius variations can be obtained without too much brain ache, it is more at ease lengthening the radius than on reducing it. You shouldn’t overload the shovel, a heavy-built skier could do it damage. The Bent can give the impression of a being a drab ski when in fact it is pretty energetic underfoot.
A very good ski for a skier who wants to have fun, it’s playful. You can do all sorts with it, it’s very versatile. Very easy to swap and change between powder skiing and piste skiing. We awarded it the FIRST Award. A real success!
