The Atomic Hawx 130 S Ultra are lightweight, very well finished and snug fitting boots. We adored their precision. The only problem was getting them on, you need a bit of effort and whatever you do don’t leave the Hawx in the freezing trunk of your car overnight!
This is a superb product, both in terms of design and performance. We love the precise yet comfortable liner. There is polar fleece on the tongue so your foot slides in better and keeps this sensitive area warm.
The other point the Test4outside team appreciated was the very narrow instep. The structure is snug fitting from heel to toe, excellent foot envelopment.
With a 98mm last and 130 flex they are designed to drive skis and have sensations with strong engagement and fast, powerful lateral energy transfer. These Atomic Hawx 130 S Ultra push the skier forward and encourage you to search out your limits. The initial contract is accomplished to the full. We skied with Atomic G9 skis, and they were perfect together.
What we really noticed was the 130 flex management which is very present but at the top of the boot, the blocking point arrives progressively. So these boots don’t block the ankle flex.
The buckles are great, very strong! Nothing moves. The adjustment strap is superb, and what a good idea – it’s short! We are always messing about with surplus strap that flaps about on the outside of your legs, and not here – perfect length.
There are two straps, one on the tongue the other at the back of the boot to help putting the boots on. You can adjust the angle at the heel and you can of course cant your boots.
In terms of design the Atomic Hawx 130 S Ultra are really superbly achieved with beautiful lines. A sublime product for good skiers looking for precision, rigidity, yet not necessarily a racing boot. Designed for narrow feet. We awarded it the Test4outside CORE Award for being a demanding and performance product.
