The Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 is an easy shoe to test and evaluate because everything is well designed and completes its tasks.
The parallel between the Asics Gel-Nimbus 23 previously teste dis pertinent: same comfort, outer sole is both reactive and with plenty of cushioning, exemplary finishing. The weight is slightly different: 300g in size 42.5 for the Brooks and 320g for the Asics (170 euros for the Brooks, 180 for Asics).
The Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 are like slippers. You put your feet inside and you don’t think twice about running short or long distances. We ran a lot with it because it is typically the type of shoe that you can do everything with and even for recovery sessions. Comfort is premium, a combination between good support and softness. The foam padding and foot envelopment are well designed. The upper is very precise and the heel pinch standard. The toes enjoy a very breathable mesh that stretches laterally. On long runs when your feet swell you have plenty of room. You don’t lose any precision on the forefoot.
The tongue is comfortable, and the laces stay in place, you have enough laces to do a double knot but it’s not necessary. Don’t tighten the top half too much as the envelopment is enough you don’t need to have extra pressure in this area.
What’s the outer sole like when you’re running? The cushioning with a heel strike is obvious and a lot more diffused, or balanced, with a mid-foot strike. You rock forwards a lot more easily, fluidly. You have good ground filtration that isn’t spongy. The rebound is efficient with comfort being the predominant feature. There’s no doubt that this Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 enables you to spend time happily running on tarmac for miles and miles, it corrects slight foot strike errors. The foot arch is well supported, we didn’t notice any compacting. With a 70-kilo bodyweight we didn’t notice any rapid deterioration of this shoe’s qualities, which can accumulate the miles without any worries.
The drop is listed as 10mm, but we had the impression it was more like an 8mm drop.
The Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 is a very good comfortable road shoe designed to run fat. Well finished, it provides a quality outer sole with a combi cushioning/rebound coherence. We gave it the Test4outside FIRST Award.
