Though marketed as a hiking shoe, the Columbia Konos TRS is actually better suited for fast hiking. Its DNA is clearly closer to trail running than traditional hiking.
It’s a lightweight shoe (300 grams as measured on our scale in size EU 42.5), responsive, and equipped with comfortable cushioning. Special attention should be paid to how well the cushioning is distributed—it effectively filters the terrain while maintaining precision. That’s rare for a lightweight hiking shoe, which typically allows for only occasional running. In contrast, the Columbia Konos TRS behaves like a real trail running shoe, offering smooth foot transitions and cushioning that enables a pleasant running stride.
The Columbia Konos TRS features a toe bumper for forefoot protection. The heel is decently held in place. Overall, comfort was clearly a priority in the design. Padding is generous, entry is easy, and the flat laces help distribute pressure evenly. The craftsmanship is excellent.
Initially priced at €110 on the Columbia website, the Konos TRS is currently available for just €70—a great deal for hikers. But that’s the point of this review: the Columbia Konos TRS is much more than a hiking or fast hiking shoe—it has real potential as an entry-level trail running shoe, and maybe more. We give it our Hot Deal award.
