The Columbia Peak Pursuit Shell jacket is a top-of-the-range technical jacket for skiing. The Columbia Powder Chute is designed for off-piste skiing.
The Columbia Peak Pursuit is a shell designed with an Omni-Tech membrane, which is breathable in classic use. We haven’t managed to test it in really wet conditions or when there’s a huge difference in temperature or linked to heavy physical effort in the uphill. We also couldn’t test it in the rain sitting on a chairlift. At any rate, the construction is solid, all the zips are waterproof, and the panels are very carefully assembled. The waterproof seams are well fitted.
To be honest, we were pleasantly surprised with this jacket’s overall quality. Everything is there: quality of the design, materials, and practicality. We could just complain about the slightly reduced size of the pocket and underarm zip sliders: are they really tough enough?
The Columbia Peak Pursuit Shell uses a very pleasant stretchy fabric, which accompanies movements in all directions. We really liked the neck and lower part of the face protection. The thing we loved: you can enlarge the neck volume by lowering a zip, it also improves the breathability in this area. This is very practical if there’s fog on your goggles and when wearing a thick underlayer with a hood at the same time as a helmet for example.
The pre-shaped sleeve ends have an adjustable volume using Velcro that can be worn over any size gloves.
The non-removable snow skirt is brilliantly thought out: Columbia remembered to put press studs to flatten the excess material when not in use.
The interior chest pocket is for safely storing your goggles.
It has double waist adjustments, arranged on either side of the pelvis. The thin elastic cords are convenient to handle but they slip a bit and sometimes lose their tension. On the other hand, we appreciated the system which allows the excess elastic to be stored inside the jacket.
There is wide underarm ventilation, and the rear of the jacket goes down low over the lumbar region.
This Columbia Peak Pursuit Shell skiing jacket is a good product that has all the technical ingredients to satisfy a demanding skier. It provides excellent protection.
