We’ve been saying it for over 20 years now: “light is right”, or how light kit does as well or better than heavier products. The Italian brand Crazy perfectly illustrates this philosophy. Crazy’s DNA comes from ski mountaineering and cross-country skiing (Valeria Colturi is the company’s founder), we love this inspiration which results in light, fitted and high-performance textiles.
The Crazy Acceleration pants meets these three criteria. The mapping is particularly successful with stretch fabrics everywhere but with different weights and protection/breathability functions. All this ensures a high level of comfort. The only downside is the diagonal seam that goes above the knee to the outside of the thigh, it is the only one that you can feel. But once you’re moving you no longer feel it.
Testing, the Crazy Acceleration pants are comfortably in tune with your movements. The big plus point is the waistband, which is both narrow and effective in terms of holding the pants up: when we saw it, we were afraid that the Acceleration pants would come down on their own, which is not the case. Another bonus when you wear a harness you don’t feel the waistbelt at all.
They aren’t waterproof but breathable, and they dry very quickly, and they are windproof. The pants may be light, but they aren’t necessarily designed for hot weather, the fabric retains thermal protection.
All the zips are unique: they are minimalist, almost invisible but never get stuck. The two hand pockets are welcome protection against the cold, and the interior is cozy. The thigh pocket isn’t suitable for any heavy or angular object (a telephone momentarily). Particularly because the thigh area is not very loose: skiers with muscly thighs will confirm the stretch effectiveness of the fabric!
The ankle circumference can be adjusted very quickly thanks to a two-stage press stud system. The inside of the ankles has reinforced fabric. The pants are designed for fast hiking, but avoid wearing crampons…
High-quality finishes: assemblies, micro seams, collages, and mini straps; all comes at a price 175 euros.
It will be necessary to check in the long term if the fabric loses its stretch and form.
