The brand classifies this Dynastar M-Pro 85 Xpress in the freeride category, but it could very well have been in the all mountain category. Like its big brother, the Dynastar M-Pro 99, it is a very light ski. We did wonder how it would behave.
The rear rocker is relatively shallow, more pronounced at the front. Once out on the snow, it pivots immediately with ultra-ease. A joy to ride using short instinctive turns: skiing in the forest, turns around posts, moguls, bushes, etc. It is a perfect ski for any off-piste beginner to take them through difficult snow conditions and on different terrain with confidence.
This Dynastar M-Pro 85 Xpress also works well on groomed slopes because turn initiations are so easy. What impression does the lightness combined with the front rocker and a short sidecut give? When skidding turns you have the impression that it’s a beginner’s ski because it’s so easy. However, as soon as you start seeking out angulation, you start to find some solidity underfoot, which is a pleasantly surprising, and you realise you can really push this ski and more extreme angulations.
The downside is that you must ski it right. All turn initiations are done in a methodical manner; pressure on the tongue then when rolling out, pressure on the boot centre. It’s a slight paradox because to fully exploit the Dynastar M-Pro 85 Xpress, it must be at the feet of a skier confident in their positioning on the skis, while at the same time its level of performance and especially accessibility are set for an average skier.
You can’t call the grip ultra-powerful, but it is good. The tip chatters on hard snow. The rubber on the tail absorbs well. It has a very classic graphic design.
This Dynastar M-Pro 85 Xpress main quality is its pivoting ease. Could also be used as a touring ski for small couloirs. A very pleasant ski for an average technical level, to do everything on the slopes, peacefully and in a very easily.
