These Dynastar Speed Course Master GS look incredibly like the Rossignol Hero Master (R22 WC), of course the group’s logic means that they can make economical savings in development by producing identical skis, yet with different names.
The Dynastar Speed Course Master GS radius is 19 meters, and they are designed (as you probably know) to ride fast on piste with large sweeping turns.
the first surprise we had was that we expected them to be demanding, dominant skis that accelerated all the time, and would end up ten meters in front of us; but they weren’t!
Another good point is that these skis are relatively light underfoot, there isn’t any inertia in the tips, which is pretty surprising for skis for racing and intended to grip (hard) to the slope. The Dynastar Speed Course Master GS can be put sideways quite quickly, you aren’t blocked by their length, tips, and weight.
But their real qualities really come through once you get onto the edge. Although you do feel that these skis are twitching to let leash and accelerate, launch into beautiful carving turns.
However, you can carve progressively, the Dynastar goes onto the edge instinctively. The Speed Course Master takes you by the hand with great gentleness: we really loved the feel on the snow, which was described as “super nice”!
They don’t make a sound, except for a tiny slightly muffled noise, the tips don’t vibrate, they enter into the turn smoothly. And off we go for some big, high-quality turns. Let’s point out, the Dynastar Speed Course Master GS aren’t for competitors but skiers with power, who want to go fast without killing everyone on the slope. With their 19-meter radius, you can still avoid people and ride on a groomed slope without causing carnage, which is not the case with real giant racing skis.
The Dynastar Speed Course Master GS ride smoothly and are stable without vibrations. We let ourselves be carried away with serenity and guidance. If you want to regain control, it is always possible: the tail doesn’t give you a false sense of security, and neither does the tip.
The flex is really well-balanced and particularly pleasing on a straight fall line, these Speed Course Master are solid even at (very) high speed. They produce this genuine feel of ease, confidence and stability, with excellent glide and a good grip.
To reduce the radius, you need to put pressure on them: they perform but within a fairly small margin.
They have beautiful tips, great finishes, a classy design with a racing touch. They are also easy skis to carry despite their relative weight: underfoot they feel light, carried on your shoulder, they feel heavier weight because they’re made with solid material, but they are nevertheless lighter than the other skis in this category.
We loved these Dynastar Speed Course Master GS skis very much indeed, so much that we gave them Test4outside.com FIRST Award. Because it’s quite rare to have competition-style skis, which have the colors anyway and that remain so accessible. Dynastar/Rossignol have dosed the Speed Course Master cocktail well. An instructor or a rider who love going fast on piste will really enjoy these, without being limited by a level of accessibility that could have been too demanding.
